For 2500 years, Buddhist contemplatives have regarded single‑pointed concentration to be as vital to health as food and sleep, and generations of meditators have refined step‑by‑step techniques for training the mind.

This workshop approach to developing Shamatha, effortless single-pointed focus, is drawn from three distinct Buddhist traditions. These proven methods can reverse the fragmenting influence of our multi‑tasking culture on your ability to remain present for the here and now.

 

Insight. Among all the world’s philosophies and religions, the Buddha’s great innovation was the development of an empirical system of practice that investigates the nature of the mind and it’s role in shaping the world of our experience.

Calling it “the direct path,” he proposed four hypotheses about how our misapprehension of our selves and the world causes all of our problems. He then outlined a series of meditative experiments to test these hypotheses and arrive at the truth of our own experience.

 

Doug travels widely throughout the year teaching weekend Shamatha and Vipashyana meditation workshops that are followed up a few months later with nine-day deep practice retreats.
